Curriculum
The New Zealand curriculum framework
Official policy for teaching, learning, and assessment in New Zealand schools is set out in the document The New Zealand Curriculum Framework (Ministry of Education, 1993) which outlines essential learning areas, essential skills, and attitudes and values.
The early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki is grounded on the same principles and provides a foundation for children to become confident and competent. During their school years they are able to build on their previous learning.
Each strand of the early childhood curriculum has a number of links with the essential learning areas and essential skills of The New Zealand Curriculum Framework.
