Graduate Scholarships for study in 2010 have now closed.
School leaver and Undergraduate Scholarships and Early Childhood Education Scholarships for study in 2010 are now open and close 1 March 2010.
Important note for existing scholarship recipients:
To apply for fees and allowances for 2010, fill out and return the 'Scholarship Recipients' Form 2009-2010', which is available to download below. All current scholarship holders are required to submit this form.
Please note: If you have a Career Changer Scholarship, please submit the 'Career Changers Scholarship Recipients' Form 2009-2010' only.
Teach NZ has made some significant changes to its scholarships which come into effect for study starting in semester one, 2010.
TeachNZ Scholarships continue to target areas where there is the highest need. In 2010 these areas are: maths, technology, physics, chemistry, home economics, te reo Māori, Māori medium and early childhood.
A comprehensive Guideline Booklet for each TeachNZ Scholarship has been created to provide applicants with all the information they need to apply. The Application Forms and Guidelines Booklets will be available as downloadable PDFs prior to each scholarship category opening (see table below).
All scholarship applicants will need to meet the 2010 eligibility criteria as outlined in the Guidelines Booklet.
Other changes include:
- introducing a merit-based assessment to award the scholarships, with the exception of early childhood;
- introducing additional early childhood eligibility criteria for those living in the Counties Manukau area;
- replacing Rural scholarships with the Voluntary Bonding Scheme;
- removing the language proficiency assessment for Māori Medium.

Loan Support Scheme
The Loan Support Scheme has been closed to new applicants from 2009 as it has been superseded by the Teacher Voluntary Bonding Scheme. However, those teachers who have received Loan Support Scheme payments in the past, and continue to meet the eligibility criteria, can apply for their next payment in the usual way. You can download the 2009 Loan Support Scheme application forms and information sheets below.
The Loan Support Scheme will cease from the beginning of 2011.
