The 2013 TeachNZ scholarships are now closed. They vary from year to year depending on the areas of greatest demand. The table below outlines all the scholarship categories and types that were available for 2013.
There’s no guarantee that these scholarship categories will be offered in future years.
Every year TeachNZ reviews data on teaching vacancies and the make-up of the teaching workforce so we can target the scholarships towards the areas of need. Ministry of Education data shows that overall in 2012, teacher supply and demand are more balanced than at any time in recent years. Annual teaching vacancies have dropped for a fifth consecutive year and the number of teachers retiring or leaving the profession has fallen for the first time since 2000.
Our data also reveals that teaching vacancies, particularly in some secondary subjects, have reduced each year since the TeachNZ Graduate Scholarships were introduced. They’re now below the level of several other subjects, which has resulted in the need to limit the number of scholarships offered for 2013, and to restrict them to the areas of highest need.
