Returning to NZ

New Zealand, like other countries, has recently seen significant changes to teacher supply and demand following the global economic recession.

Who we’re looking for

In New Zealand, there is now high demand for teachers in specific subjects and location, such as Auckland. This includes, primary teachers for junior classes and secondary teachers of the Sciences, Technology and Mathematics.

There is also still a shortage of highly qualified, te reo-speaking teachers in primary Māori-medium and secondary sectors. Additionally, teachers are in demand for relief (‘supply’) teaching.

It’s never too early to start the process

It is particularly important that you start the process of renewing your teacher registration before you arrive back in New Zealand. This includes vetting and screening – waiting to apply for this until you return can mean you will experience considerable delays.
