Curriculum

Linda Doherty, ECE teacher. Te Whāriki is the Ministry of Education's early childhood curriculum framework. It provides the basis for consistent high quality curriculum provision in the diverse range of early childhood services in New Zealand.

The curriculum is founded on the following aspirations for children:

To grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.

The four principles and five strands of the curriculum are:

  4. Relationships / Nga Hononga
