Secondary
Teaching allows chemistry and science teacher Stephen Nowell to enthuse his students about science. “I want them to see the brilliant opportunities if they choose to work in science.”
Secondary teachers in demand!
New Zealand secondary schools are experiencing an increase in rolls as a result of the population boom in the late 1980s and early 1990s and immigration. The number of secondary school students is expected to peak around 2008. This will coincide with an increase in teacher retirements and means higher demand will continue for some time.
There is an ongoing need for well-qualified, experienced secondary teachers in all subject areas. Teachers of maths, science, te reo Māori and technology, and Māori and Pasifika teachers in particular are in demand now and will be for some years as the roll growth moves through the secondary sector.
Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city where school rolls continue to increase, has an ongoing need for more teachers in all sectors - secondary, primary and early childhood.
