Community of learning | Kāhui ako

Will TeachNZ fund relief for teachers, or principals who hold a Community of Learning | Kāhui Ako role?

A teacher who holds a Community of Learning | Kāhui Ako across community or between schools teacher role is not eligible to take up a study award, so there is no funding to cover.

The following roles are eligible for funding while on study leave:

  • a teacher who holds a Community of learning | Kāhui Ako within school teacher role
  • a principal who is a leader in a Community of learning | Kāhui Ako leadership role.

In these cases, if the relief teacher/relief principal is eligible to hold the Community of learning | Kāhui Ako role, they can be paid the equivalent allowance as a a higher duties allowance (HDA), charged to TeachNZ. You will need to fill out a HDA form NOVO28a.
