Schools finders’ fee for recruiting teachers from overseas

Schools recruiting returning New Zealand trained teachers and internationally trained teachers moving to New Zealand, may be eligible for funding support of up to $3,000 (GST exclusive) per payment, for incurred recruitment costs.

Is our school eligible?

For schools to be eligible for the finders' fee, they must:

  • employ a returning New Zealand trained or an internationally trained teacher
  • employ the overseas teacher in a full-time teaching position for at least 12 months
  • provide evidence of incurred costs of overseas recruitment excluding travel costs
  • be a state or state-integrated school

Schools must use the current application form when applying for the finders’ fee.

The finders’ fee is available to schools, regardless of whether the overseas teacher is approved for an overseas relocation grant (ORG).

Schools who use one of the Ministry contracted recruitment agencies are required to note this in their application form. The Ministry will then direct their finder’s fee payment directly to the recruitment agent on the schools’ behalf.

Other allowances

Overseas teachers may be eligible for the ORG and a range of other allowances. The Ministry of Education website has more information on these.
