Stage one: Submitting an expression of interest for ACET

ACET expressions of interest for 2023 closed on 1 April 2022.

If you wish to apply for ACET recognition, you will need your principal to endorse your expression of interest (EOI). Your principal must agree that you are ready to apply for ACET recognition, and that you meet the eligibility criteria.

You should undertake professional conversations talking to your principal about:

  • how your classroom practice is exemplary in relation to the ACET professional criteria
  • the evidence you will provide demonstrating that your practice meets the ACET professional criteria
  • whether you can make the significant time commitment required to compile your portfolio
  • how you will keep the principal informed as you prepare your portfolio of evidence.

Please read Expression of interest FAQs to assist in your application.

Once your principal has agreed to endorse your EOI, fill out the online EOI form. Make sure you have completed all mandatory fields, including your principal's email address. Your principal will then receive an email to endorse your expression of interest. If you have any issues completing the online form or have any queries please email ACET.Recognition@education.govt.nz or phone 0800 165 225.

EOI forms submitted after the closing date will not be considered.

If your expression of interest is selected, you will be invited to submit a Portfolio of evidence, demonstrating how you meet the ACET professional criteria.

If we receive a greater number of expressions of interest than there are allowances available for allocation, we will run a national prioritisation process to select the teachers invited to submit a portfolio. This is because only 800 allowances can be allocated at any one time. There are approximately 250 allowances currently available.
