The information below applies to the 2017 TeachNZ Early Childhood Education Scholarships.

The ECE scholarships are for those who would like to train as early childhood teachers and who have experience working with either Māori or Pasifika communities.

Scholarships cover core study fees and an allowance of $10,000 over the period of study.

These scholarships are for people who will either commence or continue their study in the 2017 academic year. If your study year starts in Semester 1, you'll need to be enrolled in an approved ECE teaching qualification before applying.

The academic year for early childhood teacher education study has two intakes – one at the start of the calendar year and one that commences mid-year. This scholarship is for:

  • students starting their study year in the first semester of 2017 (start of year). If you receive a TeachNZ ECE scholarship, your course fees will be paid from Semester 1, 2017; and
  • students starting their study year in the second semester of 2017 (mid-year). If you receive a TeachNZ ECE scholarship, your course fees will be paid from Semester 2, 2017.

Please note that your study year must be starting from either Semester 1 or Semester 2 in 2017. If you have already started study towards your Graduate Diploma of ECE Teaching before 2017, you are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. For undergraduate applicants, it can be the start of your first or any subsequent year of study.

Which scholarship is right for me?

  • ECE Graduate Scholarship – for people with a degree or diploma (a Level 7 qualification) wanting to complete a one-year Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education), who have knowledge, understanding and experience working with Māori or Pasifika communities, and who want to teach in the early childhood sector.
  • ECE Undergraduate Scholarship – for people who have knowledge, understanding and experience working with Māori or Pasifika communities who want to teach in the early childhood sector.

Applications for these scholarships opened 7 February 2017 and closed 6 March 2017.
