Te Reo Māori (Secondary or Wharekura) Scholarships

Applications for the 2018 TeachNZ Māori Medium and Te Reo Māori Scholarships will open on 13 November 2017.

The 2017 TeachNZ Māori Medium (Primary) and Te Reo Māori (Secondary or Wharekura) Scholarships closed 6 March 2017.

TeachNZ scholarships are subject to change each year, including the categories, types and numbers of scholarships available.

Please check the scholarships table on the TeachNZ website in September to receive updated information on scholarships available for 2018.

Note: You do not need to be enrolled in an approved teaching programme when applying for a TeachNZ scholarship.

The information below applies to the 2017 TeachNZ Te Reo Māori (Secondary or Wharekura) Scholarships.

The 2017 TeachNZ Te Reo Māori (Secondary or Wharekura) Scholarships are for people who were either proficient or fluent in te reo Māori and who wish to work as secondary teachers.

Scholarships cover core study fees and an allowance of $10,000 over the period of study.

Which scholarship is right for me?

  • Tipu Whakarito Te Reo Māori - for people wanting to teach te reo Māori as a subject in secondary schools.
  • Te Waka Whakarei - for people wanting to teach a secondary subject in te reo Māori in Wharekura.
Applications for the 2017 Māori Medium and Te Reo Māori Scholarships opened 7 February 2017 and closed 6 March 2017.
