A list of pre-approved overseas teaching qualifications that will make it faster, cheaper and easier for overseas teachers to work in New Zealand has been introduced.
Applications from teachers with these qualifications (from the UK, Ireland, Canada, South Africa and Fiji) will be fast-tracked through the NZQA and Education Council process, and will save $745 on the cost involved.
Which qualifications have been pre-approved?
The qualifications are listed on the NZQA website, click here to view the list. This list will be added to over time.
What does this mean?
For overseas teachers with a pre-approved overseas teaching qualification on the list, this means:
Why has this change been made?
We know international teachers can make a big contribution to the number of teachers available to work in New Zealand.
What about young teachers from New Zealand? Won’t this make it harder for them to find a job?
New Zealand schools are only able to recruit an overseas teacher when they cannot find a suitable candidate here, and they must provide proof that they have made genuine attempts to look locally for each teacher they need.
When will the new process start?
The fast track process is already in place. Overseas teachers with pre-approved qualifications can begin the process now, to find out how click here to visit the NZQA website.
How much does this cost?
No cost applies to this initiative.
