Returning to NZ

New Zealand, like other countries, has recently seen significant changes to teacher supply and demand following the global economic recession.

Who we’re looking for

In New Zealand, there is now high demand for teachers of specific subjects including secondary teachers of the Sciences, Technology, Mathematics and te reo Māori, and locations such as Auckland.

There is also a shortage of teachers in Māori-medium primary and secondary sectors. Additionally, teachers are in demand for relief (‘supply’) teaching.

It’s never too early to start the process

It is particularly important that you start the process of renewing your teacher registration before you arrive back in New Zealand. This includes vetting and screening – waiting to apply for this until you return can mean you will experience considerable delays.

What support is available for me if I want to return to New Zealand to teach?

You may be eligible for the Overseas Relocation Grant which will reimburse New-Zealand trained teachers up to a maximum of $7,000 and over-seas trained teachers can be reimbursed for up to $5,000. To find out more information about the Overseas Relocation Grant and to apply, click here.
