TeachNZ Career Changer Scholarships

The 2019 TeachNZ Career Changer Scholarships are now open.

Apply online, or by post, now.

Please complete your application by 22 February 2019 for it to be considered in the second round of assessment. You will be notified of your outcome by 28 March 2019.

Note: You do not need to be enrolled in an approved teaching programme when applying for these TeachNZ scholarships.

The information below applies to the 2019 TeachNZ Career Changer Scholarships.

Great teachers are not all the same – they have different backgrounds and life experiences. The TeachNZ Career Changer Scholarships acknowledge this diversity, and the energy and enthusiasm it can bring to teaching. These scholarships are for people who have a depth of life and work experience, understand the vital importance of education and enjoy working with young people.

The following Career Changer Scholarships are available for 2019:

Career Changer (Primary) 

Māori Medium – for people wanting to teach in te reo Māori at primary school level.

Career Changer (Secondary)

 • Tipu Whakarito Te Reo Māori - for people wanting to teach te reo Māori as a subject in secondary schools.

 • Te Waka Whakarei - for people wanting to teach a secondary subject in te reo Māori in Wharekura.

Course fees paid + $30,000 annually over the period of study

Career Changer Secondary (Tipu Whakarito Te Reo Māori me Te Waka Whakarei)

Full time,* up to one year
